Approach

Design for Health & Comfort

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Americans spend 90% of their time indoors, yet the air in conventional homes can be two to five times more polluted than outdoor air. What we inhale into our lungs can be just as important to our health as exercise. Our experience and up-to-date knowledge of systems, materials, and best practices give us the ability to navigate the gluttony of misinformation out there and ensure our clients can make informed decisions regarding the indoor environment of their home.

Health & Comfort Goals:

  • Properly distribute space heating
  • Design for outdoor air ventilation and summer cooling
  • Locally exhaust kitchens and bathrooms
  • Control indoor air moisture
  • Properly control indoor combustion
  • Prohibit and remove construction contaminants prior to occupancy
  • Include radon protection
  • Use materials with low VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds)
  • Isolate pollutants from the garage
