An intergenerational project is a home that is shared between multiple generations of family. Our design considerations for these types of homes center around creating a balance of both shared and private spaces, as well as accessibility and aging in place. Intergenerational homes allow for a family who may live in different parts of the world to come together to share their common ties, interests, and heritage. An intergenerational home interacts with the landscape and offers a variety of site-specific spaces built for a complex climate. The intergenerational homes we design often feature a primary structure where gathering of all the generations happens, as well as smaller guesthouses for privacy. The idea is to create a variety of spaces for everyone of all ages to come together–a house as a legacy for generations to come.
