A secluded western Maine pond and the surrounding mountains provide the outdoor backdrop for this 4‑season Camp. A covered entry porch and west-facing screen porch provide for both a welcoming arrival and opportunity for views of sunsets over the treetops. Exterior materials include: Low-maintenance and pre-finished wood siding, a durable metal roof and high-performance windows and doors.
Inside, our client’s wanted a tranquil retreat that was both “rustic and refined”. Working closely with them we developed a generous open living space that wraps around a central fieldstone fireplace. The fireplace provides separation between kitchen and living while also allowing connectivity between the spaces. Exposed wood structure and natural wood finishes help to blur the line between interior and exterior.
The master bedroom suite and private balcony are located on the main level for one-floor living. The sloping site afforded a lower level with at-grade access for both guest rooms and a home office.
Radiant floor heating, closed-cell spray foam insulation, a high-efficiency gas boiler, and an air source heat pump provide year-round comfort and low operating costs.
